Little Palm Getaway

Updated: Nov 3, 2020

There's a small private island hidden in the Florida Keys, and it's more marvelous than one can even imagine. I've been wanting to plan a trip to Little Palm Island for 3 years, and my dreams finally came to fruition this fall. Little Palm was hurt badly by Hurricane Irma in 2017, and just reopened this year with a luxuriously, beachy new aesthetic. The island is only accessible by boat or float plane, as I arrived by private boat--there are 2 docks that accommodate vessels up to 120 feet. I'm thrilled to spill some Little Palm details with you, and am already dreaming of when I can return. The little island took a piece of my heart, as most extraordinary places tend to do.

2020 has been a year filled with physically-distanced travel, and I have been pleasantly surprised to find some great places to satisfy my lust for adventure. Little Palm Island Resort consists of 30 thatched-roof villas, each having the finest luxuries such as outdoor showers and bathtubs, private furnished decks, and a private sand beach complete with fire pit.

Since I stayed on our boat, I had a different experience, but all of the villas look perfectly stunning. My stay on Little Palm consisted of 2 nights, and that felt just right to me. The resort is adult-only, and it seemed to make my experience extra relaxing. You can even continue your vacation by visiting Key West, which is only about 20 miles south.

Here's what a perfect day on Little Palm looks like...

Morning

  • Catch the sunset on the beach, the temperature is lovely and the soft ocean breeze is the best wake-up call. Stroll the grounds and look for the "Key Deer"...the cutest little visitors that like to stop by the reflection pool for a drink in the morning.

  • Head over to the dining room for coffee, fresh "juice of the day", and a made-to-order omelet of your choice. Don't be afraid to order a mimosa and stay a while...every table at Little Palm has an unbelievable ocean view.

  • Head over to the "concierge hut" on the beach--everything is complimentary. Take a 2-person kayak out for a spin around the island. There are also paddle boards, mini power boats, a small catamaran and fishing poles (they'll even provide you with the finest bait.)

Afternoon

  • Grab a cabana by the pool and your favorite book. Take a dip, and make sure to submerge so you can listen to the music as it plays underwater! Towel off and order some fresh fish ceviche and a "Tequila Mockingbird" from the Palapa Bar to satisfy your soul.

  • Stop into the Island Boutique and shop for a chic beach dress, tropical jewelry or maybe some souvenirs to remember your special stay.

Evening

  • Watch the sunset from the Monkey Hut and walk out onto the sunset dock for some epic photos. Or take a cocktail cruise on the island's ferry boat--The Truman.

  • Dinner is at the dining room, or perhaps a romantic table down on the beach. Order the simply done fresh fish (the grouper is divine), and some grilled vegetables. Don't forget to save room for a slice of key lime pie (theirs has a toasted meringue topping).

  • Night cap is at the fire pit on the beach with some classic Frank Sinatra serenading you through the night while you listen to the waves crashing around you.

It's truly a special treat to stay at Little Palm; everyone there has a mutual appreciation for this extraordinary experience. I'm already dreaming of when I will return. Until then, I will cherish the memories I've made and am so grateful I get to share them with you.
