Hey, y'all! It's been far too long since I've sat down (sigh) and have written about my travels. So, I bring to you a wonderful story about my time in the Bahama Islands this summer! Yay! Sit back, relax, and I hope you have a great beverage in hand (preferably something tropical) 😃
This past June/July I was lucky enough to fly into the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau. There, me and my fellow posse jumped on our boat and spent a few nights at the marina at the great ATLANTIS Resort. One of my favorite things to do is travel on my boat. It is so different than bopping around hotel rooms; there's something magical about waking up on the water. The Atlantis is a very well-known resort, especially for its gigantic water park! I sucked it up and went down a handful of slides that were way too steep and traveled underneath a tank of swimming SHARKS 😵
...and to think that would be my only encounter with sharks during my trip... let's just say things got a bit more exciting after we traveled onto our next destination: the oh-so-cute, Harbour Island in Eleuthera.
You know what's crazy about Harbour Island?? It has PINK sand beaches! Yes! I am totally not kidding... the sand is actually a very pale pink color. Staying at the Valentine's Marina means we get sweet golf carts to ride around in. It makes sense, since the furthest destination you can travel is maybe a half mile away. We used our golf cart to make daily trips to the Pink Sands Resort ...the first order of business was stopping by the Blue Bar (yes, it is a totally blue bar) to grab some margaritas, which melted faster than ice cream cones, and thennnn make our way to the PINK beach 😍
Other than pink sand, Harbour Island offers some fantastic dining options. Another order of business on the golden girl's agenda while she's in the Bahamas is getting a nice big bowl of conch salad...yummy! It's pretty amazing watching the locals make their notorious conch salad that you just can't seem to find anywhere else in the world... that I know of 😉
Like 500 conch shells in a fishing boat on shore. Every morning, the fishermen go out and catch fresh conch to sell at the conch stands. You can order salads, fried conch, etc.
Tender cruises to dinner were a must in order to catch the beautiful Bahamian sunset ☺️
From Harbour Island, we ventured a few hours to Governor's Harbour. I must say, I was slightly freaking out when we were approaching on the boat because well, let's just say there wasn't much to look at on Governor's Harbour. Since the only slip was taken at the marina (LOL) we anchored out and would take the tender into shore. MUCH to my surprise... there was the MOST adorable resort I have ever seen once we strolled onto the island 😃
In a few minutes, I discovered we were at The French Leave Resort, which is actually a Marriott Autograph Collection Resort. One of our gang members had a birthday that day, so we got to celebrate with a nice, ice cold bucket of rose 🍾 ! I would HIGHLY recommend traveling to Governor's Harbour after the magical 24 hours I spent here... which absolutely goes to show that you CANNOT judge a book by its cover. The people, food, and environment were nothing like I have ever experienced.
Although I did not feel like leaving, we had to anchor out the next morning and make a short ride over to Staniel Cay. This might have been my most anticipated adventure, because as some of you know, this is where the famous Pig Island is! LOL! As we approached the island, I whipped out my binoculars and sure enough, I could see the little guys galavanting around in the sand. I will NEVER forget that! I about died of laughter... and, well, the rest is history... see slideshow below 😉
Make sure to BYOB (bring your own bread) if you come here... otherwise the pigs might not be so happy with you visiting! Just make sure to watch out for your fingers 😉 Other than the pigs, Staniel Cay was great for snorkeling and cruising around in a small tender boat because the water was the most BEAUTIFUL out of any other area I went to in the Bahamas. Just make sure if you go snorkeling, you won't freak out if you see a SHARK or two... YES! It's so crazy... but, there are mostly nurse sharks in this area and they're pretty nice ☺️
By the way, please don't let my mother know about this 😳 LOL. Staniel Cay offered so much excitement and adventure, it was hard to say good-bye as we ventured off to our last destination, Highbourne Cay.
The most epic thing about Highboune Cay is the PRISTINE beaches. Like, literally, has anyone else ever walked on these?! Because, they are literally perfect.
We found another cuuuute beach bar (seriously, the Bahamas are so good at making bars!) and met some interesting travelers. This time they were from California, and after we all drank too much, we stumbled back to our boats and watched the fireworks in the distance, which I can only assume were being shot off in Nassau, probably at the Atlantis Resort for their Independence Day Celebration.
The next morning, we took one last stroll down the beach, and prepared to make our way back to Nassau in order to hop a flight the following day.
Even though I was tired as hell at the end of this trip, I cannot even really express how COOL it was. Traveling is my passion, and the more I do it, the more my mind is blown away by this world and the humans and animals that live on it. I live for adventure. I live for new experiences, and I live to tell others about them.
